The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK, dedicated to advancing workplace safety, aimed to have its Safety Climate Tool play a pivotal role in transforming safety practices and minimizing incidents of injury.
The primary objective was to assess and enhance the safety climate within organizations, fostering a culture where safety is prioritized at all levels. Undertaking safety culture improvements not only demonstrates commitment to staff well-being but also yields measurable benefits, including:
Snap TechLabs was chosen to develop the tool, meeting the precise requirements outlined by the HSE team.
An online questionnaire was crafted to gauge the current safety climate and delve into employees' attitudes and perceptions in crucial health and safety areas.
Ensuring anonymity, the tool generates an auto report highlighting areas of health and safety graded as favourable, neutral, or unfavourable within an organization.
The seamless integration of the Health and Safety Executive's Safety Climate Tool has empowered over 300 organizations both in the UK and overseas to foster a safer work environment. Through data-driven insights and collaborative efforts, these organizations have not only addressed existing safety concerns but have also nurtured a culture of continuous improvement, laying the groundwork for sustained safety excellence.
“The Safety Climate Tool has certainly supported our cultural improvement strategy and it has clearly worked based on the first and latest survey. The most important improvement was ENGAGEMENT. We are delighted with the Tool’s output and all the supporting guidance that comes with it.” Swisslog UK – a global company with Swiss roots and one of the world’s leading intralogistics automation companies.
At last year’s annual awards ceremony for the Health and Safety community, the award for 'The Best Use of Health and Safety Data to Lower Incident Rates' went to TSO in association with the development work carried out by Snap to produce the Safety Climate Tool.
As TSO's Account Director, Ian Fik (who was also shortlisted for the Unsung Hero Award), explained: "A lot of hard work and dedication has gone into improving the tool over recent years. Most notably in the areas of benchmarking and gaining feedback from customers to ensure it remains market leading. The latest data shows how organisations can measure their safety culture and how it can be used to gain a competitive advantage. It is fantastic to see the team being recognised in this way and for their commitment to improving organisational safety culture."
